One of the most famous strikes that took place in 1919 and in Boston. over 75 percent of police force walked off the job ( and hid behind cars). Riots erupted in the city, forcing calvin Coolidge, to call National Guard. When strikers tried to returned to work police commissioner fired the strikers and hired new police forces instead. Then coolidge declared "there is no right to strike against public safety by anyone at any time." From doing this he gained widespread support and gained the votes of American citizens.
